3RD TERM 2023/2024 ACADEMIC SESSION

Dear parents/guardians,

  • APPRECIATION

We profoundly appreciate the Almighty God who saw us through this term’s academic and extracurricular activities. We also thank our esteemed parents for their unflinching support and understanding from the beginning to the end of the second term 2023/2024 academic session. Let us continue to work together as one body and a united winning team to give these greater future leaders of our great country a sound education and to make them responsible and useful citizens of our society in general.

  • COLLEGE ADMISSION FORM

This is to inform you that admission forms for the entrance examination into our colleges (Day/Boarding) are on sale. The date of the 2nd batch entrance examination is on 11th May, 2024 at our boarding school in Life Camp. The time will be communicated when we resume for third term.

  • RESUMPTION/3rd TERM PROJECTS

Full academic activities begin on Monday, 22nd April 2024. In our bid to develop in our pupils the virtues of self-discipline and time consciousness, we strongly encourage our parents to partner with us as we deploy every effective mechanism within our reach to inculcate in our children the culture of complete compliance with the school rules and ethical conduct, especially as it concerns punctuality and timeliness. Projects are integral parts of our continuous assessment and every pupil is expected to complete each given project to get the required mark in each subject. The project works for the third term are attached to this newsletter. Parents are expected to print them out so that the pupils will work on them during the holiday and submit them at resumption. Projects not completed will have negative consequences on the overall achievements of the pupil in different subjects. The deadline for submission of the project is May 17th, 2024.

  • SCHOOL FEES POLICY

We sincerely appreciate our dear parents for the efforts made in respect of the prompt payment of fees despite the economic situation in the country. We pray that the Almighty God would continue to enlarge your coast. All fees are to be paid in full on or before the second week of resumption day. No defaulter will be given a Clearance Card by the class teachers OR be allowed into the class by the end of the 2nd week. Parents are advised to keep to this policy for optimum service delivery.

  • DAILY RESUMPTION/DROP-OFF

We are using this opportunity to appeal to our esteemed parents/guardians to give our daily resumption time the seriousness it deserves.    Therefore, pupils are expected to be in school before or at 7:30 am. This is for security reasons and to ensure they are properly checked into the school compound as soon as they are dropped off. As partners in progress, we share the responsibility for our children’s success/security and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. Secondly, we have observed that some parents linger around the school premises to engage in personal conversations after dropping off their wards. For the purpose of security, the school management, therefore strongly advises and encourages such parents to exit the school surrounding once their wards have been dropped off.

  • BUS SERVICES

Subsequently, bus services for pupils/students are subject to approval by a school representative. This means that before payment for bus service is made, there must be an approval. This new improvement is implemented to ensure efficiency and have our parents enroll their children in their closest campus. In view of this, parents are advised to pick up the school bus registration form for approval at the school’s Administration Department ahead of next term.  Kindly note also that the bus service will not be offered to kids below three years except they have older siblings inside the same bus that can assist them.

  • PUNCTUALITY

This is an important aspect of the school that requires urgent attention. The first lesson a good pupil receives on a school day is at the morning assembly. It is rather unfortunate that many parents are in the habit of bringing their children late to school and picking them up so late in the evening. We have appealed to parents severally to bring their children to school in good time and pick them up when the school closes at 3 pm. This attitude affects the pupils psychologically and needs to be corrected without delay. We therefore, implore parents to be mindful of the security situation in the country and try to save these innocent children from mental torture. Kindly note that your child will not be allowed into the school premises once it is half past eight in the morning (8.30am).

  • RESUMPTION TEST FOR THE FIRST WEEK

As we prepare for the new term ahead, we would like to inform you about an essential aspect of our academic routine – the Resumption Test.

The Resumption Test is a standard assessment tool administered during the first week of resumption. It serves as an initial gauge of our pupils’ retention abilities, assessing their grasp of the academic material covered in the previous term. This test is crucial in helping us tailor our teaching approach to better support each child’s learning journey. We kindly request that you encourage your children to utilize their holiday period effectively by revising and studying the material covered in the previous term. This preparation will greatly benefit them during the Resumption Test and set a positive tone for the new term.

It’s important to note that the Resumption Test will only be administered during the first week of school. Any child who misses this opportunity will not have the test administered at any other time. Therefore, early resumption is strongly advised to ensure that your child does not miss out on this assessment.

DISCIPLINE/UNIFORM

The success of Stella Maris School over the years has been anchored on discipline, sound morals and excellent academics. We cannot stop emphasizing the need for all students to imbibe the genuine ethos of discipline. This will help us stamp out indiscipline and immorality completely. Parents are therefore advised to revisit the new updated Pupils/Parents Handbook and advise their wards accordingly. Stella Maris does not accept home-made uniforms and any child found with such will forfeit it. Parents are also encouraged to crest names of their wards on their uniforms including the cardigan for easy identification in the case of misplacement.

  • CLEANLINESS

It is disheartening to see some pupils in school with unpolished shoes and dirty socks while some boys come in “fanciful” haircuts. Some girls come to school with ‘’attachment’’ and beads on their hair. These are not acceptable and are far from our mode of dressing.
Therefore, any child who flouts these rules will be punished or sent back home. Parents are encouraged to assist the school in maintaining uniformity in this respect instead of choosing hairstyles not permitted in the school.

  • CLUBS AND SOCIETIES

After School Club offers a platform for pupils to engage in different activities and learn more about their likes and dislikes. This gives them the opportunity to discover and pursue their passion at an early age, making them more likely to succeed. Pupils who like to participate in any of the Category B clubs have to pay the full amount charged for such before he/she would be welcomed into the club. The above measures we believe will enhance the cordial relationship which exists between the school and the external trainers who came to exhibit their skills for children to learn.
However, parents and guardians ought to know that the category “A” club in the school is not only free but also compulsory for the children’s development.

  • SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

We sincerely appreciate our parents for their support in making our second-term social activities successful. We are also planning to have more in the third term and will appreciate your usual support. We shall keep updating you as each event approaches.

  • CLUB DAY

Also during the term, the school will have a day for the exhibition of all the category B clubs, where all the participants will display their skills and talents. Parents are advised to get their children/wards befitting costumes for the occasion.

  • GRADUATION / PRIZE GIVING DAY

The graduation ceremony for Nursery 2 and Primary 6 pupils in conjunction with prize giving day for deserving pupils who have worked hard for the session will take place in the upcoming term. Date and time of the event as well as the venue will be communicated to you as time progresses.

  • CONCLUSION

The management and staff of Stella Maris are ever determined to work harder to keep the high standard of the school. We assure you of our commitment and dedication to duty.

Thank you and God bless you all as we wish you a joyous Easter and Sallah celebrations.
